Prayer of Forgiveness-Forgiveness is Not an Option

Forgiveness is not merely an option; it is a divine mandate. When we refuse to forgive, we shackle ourselves to the very pain and hurt we’ve experienced. But a prayer of forgiveness is the key to unlocking the door to true spiritual freedom.

Look no further than the ultimate example of forgiveness – Jesus Christ, who, even as He hung on the cross, uttered the words, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” How can we do any less if the sinless Son of God could extend such grace to His tormentors?

God’s nature is one of forgiveness. It is the very essence of who He is. When we hold onto bitterness and refuse to forgive, we reject the very character of the Almighty. His command is clear – we must forgive each and every person who has wronged us. This is God’s way, and His way does not change.

The path to true spiritual freedom lies in a prayer of forgiveness. It is time to let go of the hurt, anger, and resentment and embrace the liberating power of forgiveness. This is not merely an option but a necessity if we are to walk in the fullness of God’s plan for our lives.

Sometimes, forgiveness seems impossible because of the deep hurts within us.  The first step is a willingness to forgive on an intellectual level.  The Holy Spirit will guide you through the emotional aspect of forgiveness.  Forgiveness is an important beginning part of the inner healing deliverance process.

Ask the Holy Spirit How to Forgive

Read the Prayer of Forgiveness with your heart.   Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any person you need to forgive.  You will begin to remember people by thinking of their names and picturing their faces.  This is the Holy Spirit prompting you to forgive certain people.  Learn the movement and ways of the Holy Spirit.  You will begin to sense the presence of God surrounding you.  Why?–because you are being obedient to God.

Prayer of Forgiveness

Dear Father God,

In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I bring to You the gift of my pain and lay it before Your throne.  I confess that my feelings and attitudes toward those who hurt me have been sinful, but I do not know what to do about them.

In the name of Jesus, and as an act of my free will, I purpose and choose to forgive (Person’s Name) from my heart for (what they did).

In the name of Jesus, I break and cancel Satan’s power over me in this memory and the resulting pain.  I hate the devil, and I renounce all of his evil works in my life.

In the name of Jesus, I command all the tormentors that have been assigned to me because of my unforgiveness to leave me now.

Holy Spirit, I invite You to come into my heart and heal me of this pain and this deep hurt.  Holy Spirit, please reveal Your truth to me in this situation. (Pause quietly and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart.  Listen carefully to what He has to say.

Thank you, Father God, that because of the work that my Lord Jesus did on the cross, my forgiveness, healing, and freedom from past hurts are possible.

In Jesus Name,

AMEN

Ask the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to you in each situation.  God will speak in your heart.  His word is the final word on the subject and promises forgiveness. (1John 1:9)

God is faithful in doing His part and forgives if we do our part.  The Holy Spirit will complete the work of forgiveness in your heart.  The sin of unforgiveness will no longer stand between you and God or between you and others.  God will declare you righteous and shameless.  You will regain your “right standing” as an heir of God with all the blessings it carries.  The peace that passes all understanding will fill you.  (John 14:27)

Satan and his tormentors have no legal right to you when you confess your sins and forgive others and yourself.  (Eph 4:27)  You are free! John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Additional self-deliverance work might be Required

In addition, some additional self-deliverance work might need to be done.  For example, inner healing of wounded parts, possible self-deliverance if demons are attached, breaking curses, and learning to walk in forgiveness daily.

Permit the Holy Spirit to lead you on what you must do daily to keep your freedom.  When the Holy Spirit leads, there is no pressure and always peace.

Finally, know that the Holy Spirit will lead you in your relationship (if you still have one) with the person you forgive. Forgiveness does not mean that you must be their fiend or have coffee with them every day. Again, let the Holy Spirit lead you. Guard your heart and be free.
