Speaking in Tongues

What is Speaking in Tongues?

The Holy Bible is the sole word of the almighty God, but a lot of people struggle to understand it. Tongues is a language that is speaking with the inspired human spirit. This is a language that is spoken but not understood, and it is a way to praise God by praising the Holy Spirit. In some ways, it is a form of worship.

Many Christians pray and sing in Tongues. This can be in public gatherings or personal times alone with God.

People who possess the gift of speaking in tongues must be sure that they are not making any claims of receiving special revelation from the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues might be a way to praise God, but it must be done without any improper intent or background of a person.

Speaking in Tongues is controversial among Christians. Why? Speaking in Tongues is spiritual. Speaking in Tongues helps you get closer to your Holy Spirit connection.

Some Christians are very uncomfortable with speaking in tongues-then do not do it. If you have no confidence in “Speaking In Tongues,” but if you try anyway, nothing will happen.

Speaking in tongues draws you closer to God

Speaking in tongues is spiritual. Spiritual aspects like speaking in tongues can not be verified. How do you the Holy Spirit is speaking and not a demon?

The fruit of speaking in tongues is your love and hunger for God to get stronger.
If you are pulling away from Jesus, then the speaking can be demonic or your own self-consciousness.
Other Christians can interpret what you say in a group setting.

My personal story of “Speaking In Tongues” is below:

In my twenty-seven years of knowing Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, Jesus promised “Rivers of Living water,” but I could not find it.    I powerfully experienced God’s touch during the many crises of my life, but my daily walk with Jesus lacked the power to be a successful Christian.

What was missing in my relationship with Jesus?

I had a dramatic conversion–Jesus delivered me from a demon I had invited in by playing the Ouija board.   I tried to be a good Christian after my conversion.   I read and meditated on the Word.  I prayed and attended church. Yet, I was still critical, controlling, co-dependant, selfish, and could not control my temper.

Obviously, the problem was not with the Lord Jesus Christ. I knew that Jesus was all-powerful and perfect.  The problem was me.  What was I doing wrong? When I first became a Christian, I inquired of the Lord about speaking in tongues.  I was afraid to try because of my channeling experiences of the past.  I knew scriptures concerning tongues in the bible, so I asked the Lord for the prayer language.  The language came forth and gave me great peace.

Church Involvement

As time progressed, I became involved with a church that said speaking in tongues was the devil.  I stopped speaking in tongues for about 20 years.  Speaking in tongues was uncomfortable and seemed weird to me, and since the churches could not agree on the experience, I thought I better leave it alone.

Then one evening, the hunger for a deeper spiritual walk with Jesus returned. I was reading in the scriptures about the miracles performed by Jesus and His Apostles.   I discussed exorcism and deliverance with a Christian friend who had cast out many demons.  She told me that speaking in tongues was a necessity when casting out demons.

Dispensationalism

I was taught by my current denomination that the miracles were a dispensation to establish the Christian church.  I wanted to believe that was true.  I didn’t want to behave like those emotional Charismatics– yet, I needed the power of God in my life.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Is there a Baptism of the Holy Spirit? Either the bible is true, or it is not.  It is all or nothing.   I began searching for a Charismatic church that was not too scary for me.  I began to raise my hands in worship.  I became “Baptized in the Holy Spirit” and started to quietly and cautiously speak in tongues again after 20 years of denying the power of the experience.

I attended classes on the Holy Spirit and prophesy.  The church teachers began to show me how to hear the voice of God and how to obey God through the power of the Holy Spirit.  How to “Speak in Tongues” You must be a born-again Christian through the Holy Spirit. There should be a trusted minister with you for encouragement and discernment.

Ask Jesus Christ to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. Begin to pray by permitting your spirit to make and form words or syllables with your tongue and vocal cords. Continue until the words flow smoothly. You may ask the Holy Spirit for an interpretation of the unknown words you are speaking.  Another person might have an understanding of English, or you might speak the interpretation as you “Spoke in Tongues.

The Holy Spirit would never force a Christian to “Speak In Tongues.” Do what you have confidence and trust in your Christian journey.
